First Baptist Academy’s quarterback duo of Tyler Dean and Jack Bueltel proved too much for Evangelical Christian School.
The Lions roared to a 40-2 lead in the first half thanks to three touchdown tosses from Dean and Bueltel along with two touchdowns on the ground from Dylan Cibelli.
FBA, which clinched District 2A-6, dominated both sides of the ball with two sacks, two interceptions and a fumble recovery in the first half.
Only a touchdown pass as time ran out at the half from ESC Caleb Chapman to Ryan Escalle gave the Sentinels a glimmer of hope. Chapman threw 28 passes in the half, ending the game 15 of 36 for 175 yards with three interceptions.
“FBA is a great team, they’re tops in the district for a reason,” said ECS head coach Tyler Gold. “We asked for our defense to go out and fight and early on they held us in their but they just wore down a little bit.”
Even with more than 400 yards of total offense Lions head coach Billy Sparacio pointed to his defense, “The defense played great and our coaches did a really good job of preparing for a really good offense.
ECS got a late score on a Stephan Lochard 1-yard run.
“We’ve got to keep fighting, that’s all we want to do and get better from here,” said Gold.
