Division I dual-meet champion Smyrna had five wrestlers voted No. 1 seeds for the 57th annual DIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament when seedings were determined Sunday.
The tournament will be held Friday and Saturday at Cape Henlopen High School. Friday’s session begins at 4 p.m., with $5 admission. Saturday’s first session begins at 10:30 a.m., with $6 admission. Saturday’s final session begins at 5:30, with championship matches scheduled to begin at 7. Admission will be $7. Smyrna’s Alebbo Monsanto (106 pounds), Brent Fleetwood (113), Tyler Carney (126), Jarren Wilson (160) and Zach Boyles (170) earned top seeds in their respective weight classes.
Caesar Rodney had two No. 1 seeds – Micah Hight at 120 and Tony Scarfo at 132. William Penn also had two top seeds in Dayquan Foreman at 152 and Alrick Lassiter at 285.
Other wrestlers earning top seeds were Milford’s Alvontae Drummond (138), Woodbridge’s Willie Davis (145), Sussex Central’s Keith Jones (182), Salesianum’s Bubba Mancini (195) and Cape Henlopen’s Thomas Ott (220).
The top seeds are based on coaches’ voting. If no wrestler receives at least 60 percent of the coaches’ votes, a blind draw is conducted. The only top seed determined by draw came at 182, where Jones won.
