The Regina girls soccer team had five players honored and West High three on the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association all-state girls soccer teams.

Regina junior midfielder Katie Wick and West senior goalie Jayne Heinrich each were named first team in Class 1A and 3A, respectively.

Wick finished the year with 24 goals and 15 assists for the state-qualifying Regals.

“She came out and played really hard, really well, and scored a lot of goals,” Regina coach Jordan Grimm said. “Teams started picking up on that about halfway through the season, and she was smart about how she played and created opportunities for other people.”

For the Women of Troy, who lost in the Class 3A state semifinals last week, Heinrich helped West to the win in a quarterfinal round shootout.

Despite splitting time in goal this season, Heinrich still managed 48 saves and a 0.3 goals against average.

“She had a great year,” West coach Dave Rosenthal said. “She had a difficult situation, sharing time with another good goalie (Beth Crow). But she finished on a high note. It was well-deserving.”

West junior Alli Peterson was picked for the second team, and freshman defender Payton Pottratz was an honorable mention.

Rosenthal thought Peterson deserved first-team honors.

“I’m a little surprised she didn’t make first team. She does the work of two players out on the field,” Rosenthal said. “We talk about her as Coach Peterson, she evaluates the team all the time.”

Also in Class 3A, City High junior Ruth Grau was picked for honorable mention.

Wick was joined in Class 1A by her sister Jenny Wick, a freshman second-team pick. Regina senior Tori Lust also was second team.

The Regals also had a pair of honorable mention picks in freshmen Lauren Ronnfeldt and Kennedy Brown.

“We had a lot of talent,” Grimm said. “The girls deserve it, and it’s great for them to get recognition.”

Mid-Prairie seniors Meghan and Kattie Redlinger were honorable mention in Class 1A, as was Solon senior Alison McKinnie.
