1. Okafor and Winslow go for gold.

Whitney Young (Chicago) center Jahlil Okafor and Saint John’s (Houston) wing Justise Winslow will go for gold with the USA U19 team this week when the medal round of the FIBA U19 World Championship commences Friday in the Czech Republic.

As the only two high school players on the team what will Okafor’s and Winslow’s impact be?

2. Last switch for Dukes?

Tucker (Tucker, Ga.) linebacker Detric Dukes pulled the ole switcheroo last week; changing his commitment from Louisville to Georgia.

Still, how firm is the commitment?

3. Peak’s week?

Whitney Young (Chicago) guard L.J. Peak recently announced that he’d cut his list of schools down to South Carolina, Florida State and Georgetown and added that he could announce this week.

Who will land the talented guard?

4. Beginning of the end.

High school basketball players know that the beginning of July means the start of the end of AAU season. Most national tournaments will be done by the end of the month.

Who will step up and make their name count?

5. Bell era kicks off at Charlotte Latin.

Charlotte Latin (Charlotte, N.C.) replaced legendary volleyball coach Suzie Pignetti with Ardery Kell (Charlotte, N.C.) coach Zoe Bell.

Pignetti, who officially retired in late June, had been the coach at Charlotte Latin since 2001 and won nine straight state championships.

Bell, who officially took over the program today according to the Charlotte Observer, is coming off of her first state title last season.

The Bell era has begun.
