Five storylines of the week

Freeman is a free man, Wiggins watch, and more.

1. Oklahoma or MLB for Thomas?

Heritage (Colleyville, Texas) quarterback Cody Thomas has already committed to play football at Oklahoma next season, but the buzz is steadily growing about him potentially being picked in the MLB Draft in June.

Right now, Thomas, an outfielder, is focused on the postseason on the diamond. This season he’s batting .461 and has cranked out 11 homeruns.

What does the future hold for Thomas?

The picture will get clearer when his season concludes.

2. Gridiron invades Chicago.

The Rivals/Under Armour football camp will head to Main South (Chicago) on Saturday. Sturgis (Sturgis, Mich.) quarterback Chance Stewart, a Wisconsin commit, and Indianapolis Speedway (Indianapolis) wide receiver Justin Brent, a Notre Dame commit, are just two of the elite players who will be in attendance looking to put in enough work to climb the rankings.

3. Wiggins watch.

Huntington Prep (Huntington, W.Va.) wing Andrew Wiggins, the country’s No. 1 player, has yet to pick between Kansas, North Carolina, Kentucky and Florida State.

He did, however, manage to send the Seminoles’, Tar Heels’ and Jayhawks’ fan bases into a not-so-mild state of panic when he cancelled prescheduled visits with head coaches from the schools last week.

The word is that Wiggins’ decision “could” come this week, which, we know, offers little relief for fanatics since it “could’ve” come last week.

Patience is a virtue.

4. Where will Freeman go?

Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.) shooting guard Allerik Freeman never thought he’d be uncommitted this late in the game. Especially after signing a letter of intent with UCLA back in November. But after Coach Ben Howland got replaced by Steve Alford, Freeman decided to reopen his recruitment.

Now, other than Wiggins, Freeman is the best player available.

Who will snag him?

5. Wheeler’s encore?

Leesville Road’s (Raleigh, N.C.) Justin Wheeler cranked out two grand slams in an 18-3 win over Enloe (Raleigh, N.C.) on April 16, and became just the ninth baseball player in NCHSAA history to hit two grand slams in a game.

With three games this week, what’s Wheeler got for an encore?
