Folsom's Jake Browning sets California single-season passing touchdown record

Tom Brady, John Elway and Aaron Rodgers played high school football in California. None of them threw as many touchdowns in a regular season as has Folsom's Jake Browning.

Friday, in a 63-38 defeat of Pleasant Grove (Elk Grove), Browning threw seven touchdowns passes, giving him the state record of 56 in the regular season. As the Bulldogs enter the playoffs, he's only seven short of the overall state record of 63.

Browning, a 6-2, 195-pound junior, had 23 consecutive completions in the game.

"As long as we do a good job of protecting him, which we did, he can get on a roll," said Folsom co-head coach Kris Richardson. "We have some really talented receivers and Jake is incredibly accurate. He's completing 77% of his passes this season."

Folsom runs a spread no-huddle offense, similar to that run by Washington State, and Browning is just the latest Bulldog quarterback to put up big numbers, including two now at Cal Poly, Dano Graves and Tanner Trosin. Browning is being recruited by nearly every Pac-12 school.

Troy Taylor, the Bulldogs' other head coach, said Browning goes through his reads in a consistent manner, regardless of what happened the play before.

"He's taken some shots and gotten hits and it really doesn't affect him the next play," Taylor said. "That's a rare quality that you can't really teach."
