Like any all-star game it was full of highlights and players were honored to be a part of it.
“It was a lot of fun meeting all these kids from different schools,
said D’Evelyn senior Austin Balbin. “People we’ve played, people we haven’t played from different levels, hanging out with the guys and making new friends and playing a bunch of football together, like a sport we all love.”
The north team dominated the game and the north side roster was dominated by D’Evelyn High School.
“It was really cool to know that my last game was with these four guys and a couple of my best friends so,” D’Evelyn senior Connor Skelton told 9NEWS.
Skelton, Austin Balbin, Cody Marvel, and Dante Martinez all played together at the all-state game in Alamosa.
“It’s been a blast being with the team for four years and coming out for one last hurrah, it’s been great being able to do that with my best friends right now,” Balbin told 9NEWS.
As an added bonus, D’Evelyn’s head coach Jeremy Bennett was on the north side staff for the game.
“We always mess around with him more out here, we don’t have to listen to him out here, it’s a lot of fun,” said Balbin.
“No they don’t,” added Bennett laughing.
What an opportunity for Bennett to coach his players one final time.
“It was an honor, these guys have meant so much to the program and to me,” Bennett told 9NEWS. “I really hold these guys close to my heart, yeah, I’ll remember this one for sure, this was fun.”
Making it more memorable, Bennett and his guys went out on top with a 24-0 win in their final game together.
