Members of the Roy C. Ketcham High School football team are poised to celebrate their biggest accomplishment in program history.
Officials from Section 1 will confer today and pore over Piner Scoring System figures to confirm what Wappingers Falls’ Indians believe to be true: Ketcham’s 28-6 win at Mahopac on Saturday guaranteed it the Section 1 Class AA League 1 title.
“From what I’m seeing, it clinches the first-ever league championship and No. 1 (playoff) seed in school history,” head coach Pat Keevins said after his team improved to 5-1 overall and in league play. “It’s a tremendous accomplishment for our program.”
As if the stakes weren’t high enough, Mahopac was fighting for its postseason life, needing a win to reach the playoffs. Kevin Duke ensured that didn’t happen.
Ketcham’s senior QB completed 20 of 29 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns. Duke also ran 13 times for 112 yards and another touchdown.
“He’s a tremendous player,” Keevins said. “It was a critical game, and it really was a playoff atmosphere. (Duke) stepped up and took over the game, making some great plays at critical points.”
Roddy Tierney (six receptions) and J.J. Mulvey (six receptions) gained 75 and 57 receiving yards, respectively; they each hauled in touchdown passes.
