Five more former Fort Myers High football players signed with colleges Thursday, bringing coach Sam Sirianni Jr.’s recruiting class to nine and counting from a team that finished with an 8-2 record.
Sirianni Jr. expressed his enthusiasm in senior defensive tackle Darius Copeland securing a scholarship to the University of Akron.
“Darius was a kid where in the new age of recruiting, he was a late bloomer,” Sirianni said. “He was one of those kids who could have slipped through the cracks. It’s going to be a great fit for him. Akron is getting a steal, capital S, T, E, A, L.”
In a Thursday ceremony, safety Nick Perri announced he would be attending Division II Pace University in New York and linebacker Abdias Coregas and defensive back Ricardo Alternor will be headed to Division III Concordia University in Chicago.
Nose guard Fequierson Charles wasn’t able to attend the ceremony but will be headed to Division III Maryville College in Maryville, Tenn.
Copeland will be joining 2012 News-Press All-Area Offensive Player of the Year Manny Morgan.
