MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis coach Josh Pastner has hired Jason Gardner as an assistant coach for the Tigers.
Pastner announced the hiring Friday, a move that must be approved by the both the university and the Tennessee State Board of Regents that oversees Memphis.
Gardner spent the past two seasons at Loyola in Chicago, and he was an assistant coach at Cathedral High School. A McDonald’s All-American in high school and 1999 IndyStar Mr. Basketball at North Central, Gardner played at Arizona. He played in Europe between 2003 and 2011.
“We’re excited to welcome Jason to the Tigers basketball family,” Pastner said ub a statement. “Jason is an up-and-coming star in the collegiate coaching ranks. He learned a lot at Loyola from head coach Porter Moser, who is a Rick Majerus disciple. Jason is a great teacher of the game, especially his work with guards.
“Jason had one of the most-decorated playing careers in college basketball history. Jason is a winner, and he’s proven that at every level in which he played and coached.”
