Former Naples QB Kilton Anderson planning move to Seattle

By

Naples High School football coach Bill Kramer knew he would have to replace his leading rusher. He learned Wednesday he must replace his starting quarterback, too.
Kilton Anderson, who started at quarterback as a junior last season and guided the Golden Eagles to a 12-1 record and a spot in the Class 6A state semifinals, told The News-Press he might be moving to Seattle, Washington, in time for his senior season.
Kramer and Anderson discussed the potential move prior to the team’s first day of spring football practice, in which Anderson did not participate.
“I’m super sad, because I have such a family here,” Anderson said. “This team is one of the best things that could have happened to me.
“Coach Kramer is like another father to me and a mentor and a leader. My goal and my dream was to win a state championship at Naples High.”
Kramer called this a “difficult time for Kilton.”
“I knew it was a possibility,” Kramer said. “We’re going to do everything we can to be the best team we can possibly be.”
Anderson completed 60-of-131 passes for 1,288 yards and 17 touchdowns with four interceptions last season. The University of South Alabama has offered Anderson a scholarship, and Anderson said he believed more Division I programs would be offering him scholarships prior to the fall.
Eric Anderson, Kilton’s father, said he worked for a security company. The company has talked about transferring Eric Anderson, either to the east coast of Florida or to the Seattle area.
Kilton Anderson participated in a quarterback camp in Seattle over the weekend and looked at several of the area high schools in anticipating the move.
Eric Anderson described the likelihood of leaving at “90 percent,” which was why he encouraged his son not to participate in spring football practice. Kilton Anderson is continuing his classes at Naples High.
“With spring ball starting, it’s not fair for him to be taking reps away from somebody else,” Eric Anderson said. “It’s not 100 percent nailed down, but we’re 90 percent sure. We’ve been talking about this for some time. Unfortunately, work comes first.”
Eric Anderson’s career has taken the family over the years from Colorado Springs to Dallas, Houston, Little Rock, Ark., and then Naples in time for Kilton Anderson’s eighth grade year of school.
Kramer said incoming junior Garrett Zech, a wide receiver on last season’s team, would be the heir apparent to Anderson at quarterback. Zech, a member of the baseball team, did not participate in spring football practice Wednesday either.
