The Fort Collins High School girls basketball team saw Rocky Mountain High School’s third-quarter run and raised the Lobos a fourth-quarter shutout.
The end result was a 63-42 Class 5A Front Range League win for Fort Collins in both teams’ final regular season game.
Fort Collins (15-8, 11-5 FRL) closes its season having won six of its last seven to finish fifth in the conference, while Rocky Mountain (7-16, 3-13) finishes 10th and will have to wait and see how many FRL teams make the 5A playoffs.
With a 30-18 lead at halftime, Fort Collins looked to be in cruise control before the Lobos nixed that idea, going on a 24-13 tear in the third quarter, bringing the score to 43-42 after Rocky Mountain’s Jamie Tafoya hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer.
That was the Lobos’ final bucket, as Fort Collins closed the game with a 20-0 fourth quarter. Lambkins’ senior guard Katy Couperus had 10 of those, and finished with 14 to lead all scorers. Sophomore guard Asiah Lawson and junior post player Anna Ernst each had 13 to lead the Lobos.
