Fossil Ridge High School’s Lindsey Read won the girls triple jump Friday at the prestigious Kansas Relays in Lawrence, Kan., with a leap of 38 feet, 1/4-inch.
Fossil Ridge’s team of Ashley Bock, Michaela Bonenberger, Jenny Biesert and Emily Weber finished second in the girls distance medley relay, and the SaberCats won their qualifying heat in the girls 400 relay and were second in their qualifying heat in the girls 1,600 relay. Finals in the 400 and 1,600 relays will be run Saturday.
Rhianna Williams, the defending Colorado Class 5A state champion in the girls 400, finished second in her qualifying heat to earn a spot in Saturday’s final with a time of 58.25.
Other top efforts for the SaberCats included a sixth-place finish by Aaron Bonenberger in the boys 2,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 6:43.03 and a tie for 10th place in the boys high jump by Tyler Russell, who cleared 6-4.
Jenice Whitehead won her heat and finished 13th overall in the girls 300 hurdles in 47.21 and was 16th in qualifying and did not advance in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.53.
