The Freehold girls soccer team — last year’s runner-up in the Shore Conference Tournament final — received this year’s top seed and defending Shore Conference Tournament champion Toms River North got the No. 4 seed when the girls soccer SCT committee met on Monday evening to decide this year’s tournament seeds.
Toms River South got the No. 2 seed, Freehold Township secured the No. 3 seed and Holmdel was picked as the No. 5 seed to round out the top five seeds in this year’s SCT tournament.
Unlike last year, the Shore Conference has no undefeated girls soccer teams entering the SCT but has three teams with only one loss — Toms River South (14-1), Freehold (14-1) and No. 13 seed Central (10-1).
Red Bank Catholic, the No. 6 seed, and Holmdel each finished with the same division record but Holmdel got the higher seed because the Hornets beat the Caseys in the first regular season meeting and then the schools tied in the second regular season showdown.
St. Rose, Wall, Manalapan and Jackson Memorial were the seventh through 10th seeds in the tournament and the top nine seeds get first round byes. Preliminary round games are Wednesday. Second round games will be Friday and the quarterfinals will be played Oct. 21. The semifinals are a doubleheader on Oct. 23 at Neptune and the SCT final will be 7 p.m. on Oct. 26 at Neptune.
After clinching the Class A North title, Manalapan locked down the top-seed in the Shore Conference Tournament which is scheduled to start this Thursday. The Braves earned the top-seed after earning six wins this season over teams that qualified for the Shore Conference Tournament.
After splitting the Class A Central title this season, Holmdel and Rumson-Fair Haven took the second and third seed of the tournament, respectively. Toms River North won the outright Class A South title this season and was able to secure the fourth seed of the tournament.
The defending SCT champions Ocean also won the Class B North title this season and took the five seed of the tournament. The Spartans had only one loss to 20th-seeded Red Bank, who will meet 13th-seeded Howell in the preliminary round on Thursday.
CBA is the sixth seed of the tournament and along with seventh-seeded Jackson Memorial will get a bye in the first round of the tournament. Class A North rivals Freehold Township and Colts Neck could potentially meet in the second round of the tournament after getting the eight and nine seed, respectively.
Freehold Township will meet 25th-seeded Asbury Park and Colts Neck will take on 24th-seeded Jackson Liberty on Thursday. While the boys tournament opens Thursday, second round games will be Saturday and the quarterfinals will be played Oct. 22. The semifinals are a doubleheader on Oct. 24 at Neptune and the SCT final will be 5 p.m. on Oct. 26 at Neptune.
