Parker Gaglione had a hat trick and one assist and Mike Lisciandro added two goals and one assist as the No. 8-seeded Manalapan ice hockey team defeated No. 1 seed Rumson-Fair Haven 6-1 in a opening round game of the Handchen Cup on Wednesday.

Lisciandro had two power play goals in the first period and Gaglione had one goal in the second period and two goals in the third period. Tom Caccia added one goal and one assist and Andy Vovk had one assist. Manalapan goalie Joe Barone made 38 goals for the Braves (14-10)

Brendan Ban scored in the first period for the Bulldogs (15-5-2) and goalie Dominic Padula made nine saves.

WALL 8, TR EAST 4: J.T. Tarantino had four goals and two assists, Jeff Morgan had one goal and four assists and Alex Wuestneck had two goals and two assists as the No. 2-seeded Crimson Knights (16-5-3) defeated the No. 7 seed Raiders (9-9-4) in an opening-round game of the Dowd Cup. Wall goalie Troy Klahre made 33 saves.

Toms River East’s Charlie Mule had three goals and one assist, Mike Starace had two assists and Anthony DeBlasio had one goal. Toms River East goalie Vincent DeRoma made 42 saves.

In boys basketball

MATER DEI 63, BRICK 57: Bob Klatt scored 10 of his game-high 22 points and Sam Miles scored 10 of his 17 points in the second half as the Seraphs (10-10) defeated the Green Dragons (2-22) in a nondivisional game.

Brick’s Jesse McMahon scored a team-high 15 points and Thomas Leech had 12 points.
