Led by Eric Powell’s 79, the Galion Tigers took runner-up honors in the Division II boys sectional golf tournament at Sawmill Creek Golf Club on Thursday.
The Tigers shot a 340 to finish behind Bellevue (334) and ahead of Port Clinton (343) in the 12-team field.
All three teams advance to next week’s district tournament
Port Clinton’s Shane Meek took medalist honors with a 77. Powell was runner-up, backed in Galion’s lineup by Evan Huggins (86), Spencer Reynolds (87) and Seth Van Dine (88).
Three teams and four individuals not on qualifying teams advanced to districts.
Also moving on from the area were Shelby’s Sam Boyce (82) and Willard’s Aaron Feltner (84).
Shelby shot 362 and Willard 369. Clear Fork finished at 357, led by Luke Watson’s 86. Ontario shot a 374, led by Jacob Factor’s 87, and Bucyrus tallied a 398, led by Brian Snouffer’s 91.
In Tuesday’s Division II girls sectional at Valley View in Crestline, Shelby’s Alexis Jones was medalist with a 77, helping the Whippets to a district-qualifying third-place finish of 380.
Edison (349) won the championship and Huron (351) was runner-up.
Kat Smith from Crestview and Lydia Shealy from Buckeye Central advanced as individuals.
