THE WINNER: Jacob Shiohira

THE BASICS

School: Bentonville (Ark.)
Grade: Sophomore
Height: 5-foot-7

Athletic achievement: He raced to the Class 7A individual state title this past season with a time of 15:37.8, leading the Tigers to a state championship as a team. A two-time First Team All-State selection, Shiohira earned seventh place at the Nike Cross Nationals South Regional championships, crossing the line in 15:29.09.  He also qualified for the Nike Cross Nationals Final, earning 125th place in 19:00.

Academic excellence: Shiohira has maintained a 4.1 GPA in the classroom.

Exemplary character: A talented saxophonist and clarinet player, Shiohira is a devoted member of his church community and has volunteered locally as a youth soccer coach.

THE PRAISE

“Jacob Shiohira was definitely the best runner I saw this year in the state of Arkansas,” said Rogers (Ark.) head coach Carlton Efurd. “He was extremely impressive and I don’t think there is anyone else who performed as well as he did.”

THE FUTURE: Shiohira will begin his junior year of high school this fall.
