THE WINNER: Elijah Armstrong

THE BASICS

School: Pocatello (Idaho)
Grade: Sophomore
Height: 5-foot-10

Athletic achievement: He raced to a Class 4A individual state title this past season with a time of 15:34.10, leading the Indians to a state championship as a team. A 2012 First Team All-State selection, Armstrong earned third place at the Nike Cross Nationals Northwest Regional championships, crossing the line in 15:37.2. He also placed 11th at the Foot Locker West Regional championships in 15:53.

Academic excellence: Armstrong has maintained a 4.0 GPA in the classroom.

Exemplary character: A devoted parishioner in his church community, he has volunteered locally as an aide to the elderly and as a youth track and wrestling coach.
 
THE PRAISE

“Elijah Armstrong is one of the most self-motivated student athletes I have had the pleasure to work with,” said Pocatello head coach Shannon Whitmer. “He is a very well-rounded individual who understands the work ethic that is required of him. He does not take his talents for granted and is willing to work hard to achieve his athletic and academic goals.”
 
THE FUTURE: Armstrong will begin his junior year of high school this fall.
