THE BASICS

School: Clarksburg (Md.)
Grade: Senior
Height: 5-foot-8

Athletic achievement: He raced to the Class 4A individual state championship this past season with a time of 16:02.7. A 2012 Washington Post First Team All-Met selection, Bertrand earned 12th place at the Foot Locker Northeast Regional championships, crossing the line in 15:55.5.

Academic excellence: Bertrand has maintained a 3.98 GPA in the classroom.

Exemplary character: A member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society, he has volunteered at his school as a math tutor.

THE PRAISE

“William Bertrand is a great kid and one of the finest runners I have ever coached,” said Clarksburg head coach Rob Burke. “His work ethic is unmatched and drives him to succeed in all that he does.”

THE FUTURE: Bertrand will attend Princeton University this fall where he will compete in cross country.
