THE WINNER: Nick Raymond
School: Erie-Mason (Erie, Mich.)
Athletic achievement: He raced to the Division 3 individual state championship this past season with a time of 15:05.1. Raymond took third at the Foot Locker Midwest Regional championships in 15:02 and finished 20th nationally at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships. He also earned a victory at the Mid-East Meet of Champions.
Academic excellence: Raymond has maintained a 3.39 GPA in the classroom.
Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally as a youth mentor and on behalf of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
“Nick has an unparalleled work ethic,” said Erie-Mason coach Alison Meisner. “He’s extremely coachable and willing to do whatever it takes to achieve and surpass his goals. He rarely makes a mental mistake during a race, and if he does, he learns from it and it’s never repeated.”
THE FUTURE: Raymond remains undecided upon a collegiate destination.
