THE WINNER: Aaron Templeton
School: Hardin Valley Academy (Knoxville, Tenn.)
Athletic achievement: He raced to the Class AAA individual state championship this past season with a time of 15:52.67, leading the Hawks to a third-place finish as a team. A two-time First Team All-State selection, Templeton earned third place at the Nike Cross Nationals Southeast Regional championships, crossing the line in 14:54. He also qualified for the Nike Cross Nationals Final, where he finished seventh in 15:29.
Academic excellence: Templeton has maintained a 3.06 GPA in the classroom.
Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally on behalf of a hospital and has helped organize food baskets for families in need during the holidays.
“Aaron Templeton’s attention to detail is better than any runner I have ever had,” said Hardin Valley Academy head coach Bryan Brown. “He sets time aside for each and every detail of his training and school work. He was easily the best runner in the state of Tennessee this year.”
THE FUTURE: Templeton will begin his senior year of high school this fall.
