Senior midfielder Jeff George notched three goals and an assist Wednesday afternoon to propel the Watchung Hills High School boys lacrosse team to a 5-3 victory over Hillsborough.
Alec Orazietti and Danny Phillips delivered one goal apiece for the Warriors, while goalie Nick Malinousky turned away 10 shots in the victory.
Midfielder James Bolan posted a goal and an assist in a losing effort for Hillsborough (0-2).
Watchung Hills second-year coach Jamie Lovejoy has been pleased thus far with his team’s 2-0 start.
“From where I played ball growing up, winning was more of a tradition and something that most of the athletic programs at the school have had a problem with,” he said. “We have a strong core of seniors who have bought into the program. There in the building at 6 a.m., and it’s completely been a reversal of attitude in a year and a half.”
Lovejoy on George: “He’s not a vocal leader. He gets on the field, gets to work and gets it done. He’s gained the experience from being a four-year starter, and when he goes out there, he commands the respect of his teammates and the play around him elevates.”
Ridge 12, North Hunterdon 2: J.T. Palladino scored four goals and added three assists to lead Ridge (2-0). Eric Scott added a goal and four assists to boost the Red Devils attack. Kyle Quick and Connor Wright each scored for North Hunterdon (1-1).
New Providence 11, Scotch Plains-Fanwood 7: Jack Harvey scored four goals and added two assists and Jon Ebert chipped in three goals and two assists to power New Providence (2-0). Kevin Kerby scored once and assisted on four more for Scotch Plains-Fanwood (1-1).
Immaculata 13, Montgomery 9: Connor Vanderbeek netted a hat trick, delivered two assists, and picked up 10 ground balls to power Immaculata (1-1). Wyatt Agaisse scored three goals and added an assist and Jacob Vanleenen scored twice. Joe Riccadonna made 13 saves in the victory. Matt Stagnitta notched three goals and added two assists, Owen Tollefson posted two goals and two assists and Josh Reinson tallied two goals and one assist for Montgomery (0-1).
Moorestown 11, Pingry 0: Wade Dickey scored four goals to lift Moorestown (2-0). Michael Handlen netted two goals and added three assists and Robert Kuhn sank for two goals. Pingry fell to 0-1.
Lawrenceville 15, St. Joseph 3: Grayson Helm tallied two goals and five assists and M.J. Flood scored three goals and added three assists as Lawrenceville (4-0) jumped out to a seven-goal lead in the first half. Johnny Salemi sank three goals, Dylan Key totaled two goals and two assists and Nick Giacco scored twice. St. Joseph fell to 0-2.
