Gill St. Bernard's back in title game

Just minutes into the second half, Justin Durcan was awarded an own-goal after his crossing attempt found its way into the back of the net, and The Gill St. Bernard’s School won its second straight NJSIAA Non-Public South B title, 2-1, over Moorestown Friends Thursday night in Holmdel.

The two teams were scoreless at halftime, but moments into the second stanza, Durcan got the Knights on the board with his 20th marker of the year.

Two minutes later, top-seeded Gill St. Bernard’s (19-3-1) doubled its lead, when James Reiner scored his 22nd goal of the season.

Durcan and Reiner had each scored twice against Trenton Catholic in the semifinals on Monday for the Knights, who advance to Monday’s Non-Public B Final at The College of New Jersey (8 p.m.) against North B winner Montclair Kimberley. MKA defeated Oratory Prep 2-1 on Thursday night.

Moorestown Friends (13-7-1), the tournament’s third seed, got a goal in the 50th minute, but couldn’t find an equalizer against Jordan Schreer.

Gill St. Bernard’s hadn’t allowed a goal in the tournament, winning its first two games by identical 6-0 scores.
