HALEY DACK
Leslie sophomore
The facts: Dack won the sophomore race at the Pittsford Invitational on Saturday in 19:44 after taking second in both the Springport Invitational Class 2 race and Marshall Barney Roy Invitational and fifth in the Bath Invitational Class 3 race and in Leslie’s Blackhawk Invitational. As a freshman last fall, she finished fifth in her regional meet at Jackson and 31st in the Division 3 state finals to miss all-state honors by just one place at Michigan International Speedway. She is unable to earn all-league honors again this fall, but will be able to do so next fall when two-year independent Leslie joins the Greater Lansing Athletic Conference with Lakewood, Lansing Christian, Maple Valley, Perry and Stockbridge.
From coach David Hovarter: “Haley is an exceptional athlete and a wonderful young lady. She works very hard, gaining the respect of everyone on our team. As an example, we were doing 1,000-meter repeats and the varsity boys asked Haley to join them because they respect what she can do. Last year as a freshmen, she ran very well, leading to her state final appearance, where I clearly told her the worst spot at state finals is 31 – just out of the medals. She was 31st. Her accomplishments are many and continue to pile up. With her work ethic, she is going to keep piling them up. Haley is also an avid soccer player and basketball player.”
