Beacon High School’s girls basketball team used a balanced attack to pick up its third straight win to begin the season, a 60-38 triumph over visiting Haldane on Monday.
Lauren Schetter led Beacon with 14 points and nine rebounds. Talah Hughes registered a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Leandra Echi had 11 points, seven assists and six rebounds.
“We hadn’t played in nine days, and we came out and our focus was on energy and trying to come out from the start,” said Beacon coach Christina Dahl, whose Bulldogs held a 17-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 27-13 halftime lead.
“We moved the ball well offensively and shared the basketball. We got in a little bit of foul trouble, but everyone was able to chip in. We had a well-rounded offensive game from the team.”
Allie Monteleone led Haldane (1-3) with a game-high 23 points. No other Haldane player had more than six points in the Blue Devils’ third straight loss.
“Defensively, we played well,” Dahl said. “We came out a little rusty and turned the ball over a few times, but we were able to rebound and take care of them defensively.”
Beacon visits Poughkeepsie at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Haldane will visit Croton-Harmon in the Tigers’ home tournament at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
