Girls' basketball: Cooley Award winner is announced

By

Sarah Lampe of Bellevue Marquette has been named the winner of the E. Wayne Cooley Award, the state’s most prestigious honor for a girls’ high school senior.
The award, which is made by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, rewards both athletic and academic skills.
Lampe is a multi-sport standout. She’s a standout on her school’s basketball team. She ran for Marquette’s seventh-place state cross country team last fall, finishing 22nd overall.
Last year, she earned second-team all-state honors as an outfielder. She was a state qualifier in track, too.
The award is named for the former director of the Girls’ Union, who led the organization for nearly 50 years.
