Girls basketball: Poor second quarter dooms Roosevelt

By

The Franklin D. Roosevelt High School girls basketball team will look to regroup over the next three days before focusing on the upcoming Section 9 Class AA Tournament.

The Presidents (12-4), who suffered a 63-50 loss at Cornwall on Monday, will play at Spackenkill today and will host Highland on Thursday to close out the regular season.

“We have a chance to make a run in sectionals,” Roosevelt coach Cliff Sauer said.

In Monday’s loss, Roosevelt turned the ball over and found itself in foul trouble during a 24-5 second quarter. The Presidents rallied in the second half, but it was too late.

“They played us all man in the first quarter and we played really well,” Sauer said. “They went to a zone and they hit some big shots in the third quarter. They hit four shots with two seconds or less on the shot clock in the third quarter.”

Allison Pritchard scored 27 points to lead the Presidents. Darien Demelis tallied 10 points.

Cornwall improved to 12-5.
