Girls basketball roundup: Plymouth impressive in win over Howards

By

Plymouth’s girls basketball team scored 41 of its 63 points in the first and third quarters of a 63-38 non-conference win at Howards Grove Tuesday.

The Panthers (9-3) led 20-7 after one quarter and extended the lead to 55-36 through three.

“We had 23 turnovers and shot 29-percent from the field, that’s not a winning combination,” Howards coach Heidi Georgeff said.

Nikki Reil led Plymouth with 14 points. Marissa Grapentine added 11 and Rachael Cecka had 10 for the winners.

For Howards (8-4), Hayley Rickmeier scored 12 points.

“We got within nine in the third quarter,” Georgeff said. “They mixed up some defenses and pulled away.”

G.B. Southwest 52, Sheb. North 38

The Golden Raiders struggled shooting, connecting on just 12-of-48 attempts for the night.

“Just as a whole we didn’t shoot well,” North coach Eric Spielman said. “Inside looks, outside looks, nothing would fall. (Southwest) was physical with us, and we backed down from that physicality.”

Lindsey Gosse had nine points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks to lead North (10-3, 4-3 Fox River Classic Conference).

Natisha Hiedeman led all scorers with 20 points for the Trojans (8-3, 5-2).

“Defensively, our strength is defending the paint,” Spielman said. “We had to extend our defense a little bit, and that didn’t work.”
