GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Red Bank Catholic defeats Manasquan


The Asbury Park Press preseason No. 5 Red Bank Catholic girls basketball team kicked off opening night with a dramatic 48-46 win over No. 6 Manasquan in a Shore Conference Class A Central game on Friday night.

Alex Barazotti finished the game with a team-high 13 points. Grace Fallon scored 12 points and Tia Montagne also finished with 11 points for the Caseys.

Manasquan’s Samantha Sullivan finished the day with a team-high 16 points, and Bridget Ford also had 10 points for the Warriors.

MARLBORO 57, FREEHOLD TWP. 55: Haley Unger finished the game with 17 points and 12 rebounds leading the Mustangs (1-0, 1-0) over the Patriots (0-1, 0-1) in a Class A North game.

Tatum Evans finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds, and Nicole Shatsky had 16 points and 11 assists for the Mustangs.

MANALAPAN 70, WALL 50: Kelly McNulty finished the game with 19 points leading the Braves (1-0) over the Crimson Knights (0-1) in a nondivisional game.

Sam Meier finished with 11 points and Catherine Traina also added 12 points for the Braves. Ellen Dougherty finished with a team-high 20 points for the Crimson Knights.

NEPTUNE 65, FREEHOLD 32: Iyonna Crenshaw scored 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds leading the Scarlet Fliers (1-0, 1-0) over the Colonials in a Class B North game. Alexis Nerestant also added 12 points for the Scarlet Fliers.

MATER DEI 43, RANNEY 31: The Seraphs (1-0, 1-0) had 21 steals, including six by junior guard Lindsay Florio, as they defeated the Panthers (0-1, 0-1) in a Class B Central game.

Junior guard Brooke Trotta had a game-high 14 points for Mater Dei. Sophomore guard Maggie Klatt had two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to enable Mater Dei to pull away. Seraphs junior forward Katie Viscardi had eight points and eight rebounds.

Grace Wilgucki and Carly Angell each had a team-high 10 points for Ranney.

ASBURY PARK 44, KEYPORT 39: Porschia Witherspoon scored 18 points and pulled down 14 rebounds leading the Bishops (1-0, 1-0) over the Red Raiders (0-1, 0-1) in a Class B Central game.

Destiny Smith had six points and 10 rebounds and Krystina Barnes also had 12 points for the Bishops.

MIDD. SOUTH 55, COLTS NECK 41: Middletown South guard Olivia Liskowitz added five rebounds and three assists to her game-high 17 points as the Eagles (1-0, 1-0) moved past the Cougars (0-1, 0-1) in this Class A North opening night clash.

Eagles sophomore Stepahnie Karcz matched her point total with 10 rebounds to complete the double-double while teammate Jill Falvey tore down 11 boards to go along with her seven points. Colts Neck’s Kaity Healy led the Cougars in scoring with 12 points.

CENTRAL 42, PINELANDS 22: Central guard Katelyn Kuster scored a game-high 15 points, including 11 of her team’s 22 first half points, while Brianne Allender added six steals and five assists to her five points, as the Golden Eagles (1-0, 1-0) flew past the Wildcats (0-1, 0-1) in this Class B South meeting.

TR NORTH 51, BRICK 41: Christina Ribaudo sank five 3-pointers and had a game-high 22 points to lead the Mariners (1-0, 1-0) over the Green Dragons (0-1, 0-1) in a Class A South game.

Brick’s Brianna Page had 13 points on 13-for-15 shooting from the foul line.

OCEAN 37, LONG BRANCH 26: Danielle DeFillippo went 5-for-9 from the foul line in the fourth quarter and Sara Krautler had four points in the final quarter as the Spartans (1-0, 1-0) outscored the Green Wave (0-1, 0-1), 13-1, to rally and record the win in a Class B North game.
