Morgan Edge had a game-high 17 points and four 3-pointers to lead the Howards Grove girls basketball team past host Sheboygan South 40-33 at the Sheboygan South Holiday Tournament on Friday night.

Taylor Beninghaus also added eight points for the Tigers (2-4), who led 13-10 after the first quarter and 20-19 at halftime.

“We took care of the ball. We knew they would throw different presses at us and we did a really good job of handling that pressure,” Howards Grove coach Heidi Georgeff said.

Lauren Pfile was the only player to reach double digits in scoring for South (3-4) as she had a team-high 11 points.

Both teams will be back in action today in the final day of the tournament.

Bay Port 66, Oostburg 57

Oostburg (4-2) fell behind 21-9 after the first quarter and despite rallying to tie it at 54-54 late in the fourth quarter couldn’t pull off the win over Bay Port (4-3) at the Fond du Lac Tournament.

Maranda Huibregtse led the Flying Dutchmen with 22 points, eight rebounds and six assists while Kimberly VanStelle had 14 points.

Shannon Boldt added 12 for Oostburg. Boldt, VanStelle and Huibregtse each had four 3-pointers in the game.

The Flying Dutchmen will have a game today on Day 2 of the tournament. Their opponent had not been determined as of press deadline.

Plymouth (5-2) allowed Milwaukee Washington (1-5) one first-half point for the Cedarburg Tournament win, the Panthers’ fifth straight victory.

Plymouth advances to take on the winner of Friday night’s game between Cedarburg (5-1) and West Bend East (3-4), which ended too late to be included in today’s print edition of the Sheboygan Press.

Gwen Streblow led Plymouth with 13 points while Kaylee Kuhn and Nikki Reil each had 10 points. Streblow and Kuhn each had one 3-pointer.

Down 11-8 after the first quarter, Lutheran (2-5) was outscored 18-8 by Kenosha St. Joseph (7-0) in the second quarter and couldn’t recover in the Lake Country Lutheran Tournament loss in Hartland.

Erin Quam led the Crusaders with 11 points while Danielle Byrum had 10 points with two 3-pointers. Julia Splittgerber also had a pair of 3-pointers for Lutheran as she had eight points.
