South Brunswick girl’s lacrosse has been an unstoppable force in Greater Middlesex Conference play throughout the last five years and it was given one of its toughest tests over that time span on Tuesday.
In a tightly played contest, South Brunswick defeated East Brunswick, 11-10, in overtime and extended their winning streak against GMC opponents to 60 consecutive wins.
Carissa Smith of East Brunswick (9-4) tied the game up 10-10 with 19 seconds left in regulation and Nicole Deinzer scored the game winning goal for South Brunswick (10-2) on a free position shot with 1:12 left in overtime.
Ridge 11, Montgomery 10: Sam Brown led the charge for Ridge (10-1) on Tuesday scoring four goals and adding one assist to pace Ridge. Amanda Bosland, Hannah Quigley and Izzy Behrins all scored two goals for Red Devils. Tori Rudo scored four times for Montgomery (5-7) and teammate Jillian Donnellan collected three assists.
North Brunswick 16, South Plainfield 6: Tatum Altman (three goals, four assists) and Samantha Mehalick (four goals, three assists) spearheaded the North Brunswick (4-7) offense as the Raiders led 11-3 at halftime. Emily Pittenger scored five of South Plainfield’s (0-11) six goals.
11, Hunterdon Central 10: Kira Greer scored four goals for Hunterdon Central and teammate Holly Andersen scored two goals. Julia Wood led all scorers with five goals to lead North Hunterdon in the winning effort.
