The Valders girls soccer team fell behind 2-0 before halftime, and a rally fell short in a 2-1 defeat by Oostburg on Friday.

The host Vikings (0-2) got their goal from Angela Brandl in the 65th minute, assisted by Morgan Kelly. Alena Braun made 13 saves in goal.

The goals for Oostburg (5-0-1) came on a 1-on-1 break with the keeper and and a penalty kick.

“Take away that PK with one minute left in the first half and this match was dead-even,” said Valders coach Brian Brandl. “Great improvement in time of possession for Valders from the first match.”

Brandl also praised midfielders Syd Gutman, Morgan Kelly and Paige Neumeyer, and Braun.
