It was a familiar situation.
Less than two weeks ago, Ozaukee and Oostburg met in a showdown between the area’s top two ranked Division 3 girls soccer teams. Back then, on May 14, top-ranked Ozaukee held on for a 1-0 win over third-ranked Oostburg.
Not much changed in the 10 days leading up to Friday’s rematch. Ozaukee was still ranked No. 1, and Oostburg was still No. 3. But this time, it was Oostburg that did the holding on.
Austin Wilterdink scored midway through the second half, Jocelyn Stemper got credit for a shutout and the Flying Dutchmen staved off the Warriors at home Friday for a 1-0 win.
“Our defensive line played an outstanding game,” Oostburg coach Ryan Ohlfs said in a statement. “I’m very pleased with what we did as a team. We created the opportunities we needed tonight.”
Stemper tallied 10 saves inside Oostburg’s net.
Ozaukee nearly picked up a goal in the first period after Oostburg committed an accidental handball inside the box. But the ensuing penalty kick sailed just wide, preserving a 0-0 tie into halftime.
