Junior Kinsey Bruno tallied four goals and an assist and sophomore Katie Mulkerin added a goal Saturday as the No. 11 seeded Immaculata High School girls soccer team blanked No. 14 Somerset Tech 5-0 in the opening round of the Somerset County Tournament.
Mulkerin broke through in a scoreless game with 12 minutes left in the first half, heading in a pass from Bruno, before Bruno did the same on a feed from Erin Schnappauf with 5:30 remaining in the opening period. Kinsey scored three unanswered in the second half to put it away.
Sophomore keeper Kaycie Sconda made 22 saves for the Jags, who fell to 6-4. The Spartans (2-5-1) will visit seventh-seeded Watchung Hills in next Saturday’s second round.
Mount St. Mary 4, North Plainfield 0: Shannon Zimmerman posted a hat trick and Adrienne Capants added a goal as 10th-seeded Mount St. Mary struck four times in the first half to cruise into the second round. Gabriella Nasta and Aimee Manlee dished out assist for the Mount Lions (7-2-1), who will visit seventh-seeded Hillsborough next Saturday.
Franklin 8, Manville 0: Kim Chavkin scored two goals and Amanda Printon, Amber Folnagy and Ariyonna Wright each posted their first varsity tally to send No. 9 Franklin past the No. 16 seed. The Warriors (3-6-1) will visit ninth-seeded Bernards in Saturday’s second round.
Hunterdon Central 1, North Hunterdon 0: Gaby Stelzmiller scored off a Brie Pavol corner kick with two minutes left in regulation and Hunterdon Central improved to 7-1. Bristol Pizzuto made four saves for the shutout, while Kelli Liebermann made eight saves for the Lions (0-7).
Bridge 1, New Providence 0: Samantha Potts scored a goal and Alley Maurer made nine saves to send Old Bridge (5-1). Katie Vigilante and Ken Meluso each made four saves for New Providence (3-4).
J.P, Stevens 3, Woodbridge 1: Kiersten Shannon scored the go-ahead goal two minutes into the second half and J.P. Stevens went on to claim the victory. Kira Rose Olsen and Katia Olsen added goals for the Hawks, while Jenny El-Fakir distributed two assists in the victory. Hadiza Mamman scored in the 28th minute for Woodbridge.
Sayreville 2, Edison 0: Morgan Guenther and Sarah Rubio scored goals and Kim Stratton posted two assists to send Sayreville. Kelly Raub made five saves for the Bombers, while Kaitlin Marold stopped 13 shots for the Eagles.
East Brunswick 2, South Brunswick 0:Ellie DiLiberto and Sydney Rosa scored goals six minutes apart late in the first half, with each assisting on the other’s tally, to lead East Brunswick. Alex Kalafor made six saves for the Bears, while Sydney Schneider made 11 saves for South Brunswick.
Scotch Plains-Fanwood 7, Kearny 2: Tori Bailatico posted two goals and an assist, and Katie Harper notched a goal and four assists as Scotch Plains-Fanwood cruised to 8-0.
Valley 2, Voorhees 1: Madison Gavornik finished a Jessica Schneider pass 12 minutes into the second half to tie it for Voorhees, but Hopewell Valley scored the winner eight minutes later to sink the Vikings (1-7-1).
Oak Knoll 3, Gill St. Bernard’s 0: Alyx Schrecengost made 15 saves for Gill St. Bernard’s, but the Knights fell to 4-4-1.
Montgomery 3, Notre Dame 2 (OT): Senior Colby Ciarrocca headed in a pass from Marisa Kowalski 1:06 into overtime to lift Montgomery. The Cougars (4-2-1) led 2-1 on goals by Ciarrocca and Kowalski before Notre Dame tied it with 15:00 to go.
Ridge 2, Morris Catholic 1: Gigi Cifelli finished with one goal and one assist and Julia Lindsey aded a goal to send Ridge (6-3).
Westfield 6, Bayonne 0: Karli Sottung recorded a hat trick and Hannah Hawkins finished with one goal and one assisted to lead Westfield (6-2).
