Sophomore Samantha Orrecchio buried a Lauren Hall corner in the 76th minute Friday and the fifth-ranked Bridgewater -Raritan High School girls soccer team scored a 1-0 victory over No. 3 Ridge on opening day.
Senior Casey Murphy tallied four saves for the Panthers, while sophomore Samantha Carney notched two saves for the Red Devils.
Pingry 7, North Hunterdon 1: Freshman forward Alexa Ferreira opened her varsity career with a hat trick, adding an assist, to spark Pingry (1-0). Senior midfielder Rachel Corboz notched two goals and two assists for the Big Blue, who outshot North Hunterdon 15-2. Christine Young scored the only goal for the Lions, early in the second half.
Mount St. Mary 2, Warren Hills 0: Freshman midfielder Sarah Strehle and sophomore Shannon Zimmerman notched second-half goals, and Emily Baumley recorded five saves and the shutout as Mount St. Mary won its opener. The victory was the first as a varsity coach for the Mount Lions’ Phil Iuliano.
Somerville 6, Voorhees 1: Maxine Blackwood scored two first-half goals and added an assist to spark Somerville. Felicia Silveira scored in the 70th minute for Voorhees.
North Plainfield 1, Manville 0: Caitlin Gugliotta scored the game’s only goal in the 28th minute to lift North Plainfield.
Immaculata 3, Phillipsburg 0: Sophomore forward Sami Viviano and freshman forward Michelle Antico each netted goals to pace Immaculata. MaryKate Mckeown made eight saves during the first 70 minutes and Ava Simon finished up and stopped two shots for the Spartans shutout.
New Providence 3, Bayonne 0: Lisa Caprara, Ellie Skrinski, and Maggie Roughley all netted goals, while Casey Trezza and Lexi Everton each recorded an assist for New Providence. Katie Vigilante made five saves and Jen Meluso posted four stops to share the shutout.
Delaware Valley 7, South Hunterdon 0: Junior forward Kat Ziegler led Delaware Valley with a hat trick ,while junior midfielder Haley Pilone added two goals for the Terriers. South Hunterdon received 13 saves from keeper Megan Donnelly in the Eagles first-ever varsity contest.
Hillsborough 5, Franklin 0: Tori Minutillo scored 5:19 into the contest off a Nicole Russo corner kick and Hillsborough was off and running, as the Raiders scored an opening-day shutout. Kate Zuccarello, Christine Mayorga, Julianne Minutillo and Carly Swetz also scored for Hillsborough. Veronica Acevedo made 14 saves for Franklin.
Bernards 8, Bound Brook 0: Claudia Prandoni and Kristin Coury notched hat tricks for Bernards.
Belvidere 2, Gill St. Bernard’s 1 (OT): Andrea Jablonskyj scored on a 30-yard strike in the second half off Kathryn Bednarsky’s assist for Gill St. Bernard’s, but the Knights fell in overtime.
Woodbridge 5, A.L. Johnson 1: Hadiza Mamman recorded a hat trick and Corinne Kist added one goal and three assists to spark Woodbridge (1-0).
