Girls soccer: Slow start dooms Lourdes

The Our Lady of Lourdes High School girls soccer team surrendered two goals in the opening 12 minutes and suffered a 2-1 loss to visiting Albertus Magnus on Saturday.

“After the second goal, we really woke up and played a really good second half of the first half,” Lourdes coach Kara Sefcik said. “We came out in the second half with a lot of enthusiasm and desire. We came together as a unit and team. We gave ourselves opportunities to score. Unfortunately, we did not connect on a number of them.”

Olivia Schlottmann scored on a free kick in the 14th minute of the second half and Mary Riley made eight saves for Lourdes (1-2).

Sefcik credited midfielders Meghan Riccardi and Vicki Kraft and forward Katina Kozlowski for their strong play.

“All three of them really gave it their all throughout the entire match and provided us with a number of scoring opportunities,” Sefcik said.

Lourdes hosts Beacon on Tuesday.

“We’re definitely going to focus on coming out stronger, quicker and look to make sure we play hard for the full 80 minutes,” Sefcik said.
