Girls' Sweet 16 | Marion County's Makayla Epps named Gatorade Kentucky Girls' Basketball Player of Year

Senior Makayla Epps of Marion County was named Gatorade Kentucky Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year.

Epps, a University of Kentucky ­signee, is currently competing in the Sweet 16 in Bowling Green.

The 5-foot-10 senior point guard has helped leaad top-ranked Marion County to a 36-0 record and is averaging 22.8 points, 4.8 assists, 4.3 steals and 4.2 rebounds per game. She has scored 3,256 points in her high school career, placing her eighth on Kentucky’s career list.

The award also recognizes academic achievement and character. Epps has maintained a B average and has volunteered with American Red Cross blood donation drives, a literacy-outreach program and as a peer tutor.
