Girls tennis roundup: Kohler loses match, wins EWC title


Kohler swept the three doubles matches, but Roncalli won all four in singles to win Tuesday’s Eastern Wisconsin Conference showdown of unbeatens at Lincoln Park in Manitowoc.

But because the Blue Bombers won more individual matches during the eight dual meets this season, they were declared the conference champions.

It is the second EWC title in program history; the other came in 2011.

Both teams entered the final dual of the season at 7-0, but the Jets won two singles matches in three sets to hang on.

Frannie Hillstrom and Jamie Lewis hung on for a three-set win at No. 2 doubles for Kohler.

The Falcons finished their dual season at 10-3 with a sweep of the Raiders at home.

Shauna Stoffregen and Mia Bartel each won 6-0, 6-0 matches at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively.

Elizabeth Raeder picked up two shutout sets to cruise at No. 1 singles and the rest of the Panthers followed suit in the EWC win.

Cassandra Nicholson picked up her first varsity win after filling in at No. 3 singles for Elizabeth Bolland. The Panthers’ doubles teams combined to lose three games.
