Greg Sims knows it was 10 seasons. But even he couldn’t believe it was that long. After a decade as the North Salinas High softball coach, he has decided to step aside and take a break.
“Ten years went by quick,” Sims said.
Sims said he plans to take a break from coaching while pursuing other careers.
Under Sims, the Vikings reached one Central Coast Section final, falling to Live Oak in the 2005 title bout in one of the most heartbreaking losses in school history. The team came one out away from winning the title when Live Oak pulled off an improbable rally to grab the win.
“We weren’t picked to do anything that year, and we got to the CCS final,” Sims said. “It was just one unlucky inning.”
Sims said he completed the most important task, which was help get the players to finish their classes.
“It was fun working with all of them, and I’m glad they all graduated,” he said.
Sims plans on returning to coaching at some point. But for now, he’s going to pursue other careers.
Those interested in becoming the next head coach can call North Salinas Athletic Director Jean Ashen at 796-7580 for information.
