GRAND LEDGE

Lacrosse has been touted as the fastest growing sport in the US, and it’s now coming to a field near you. The Grand Ledge Lacrosse Club is ready to launch its inaugural lacrosse season for boys and girls grades 4 – 8 and high school.

Locally, prior to the 2013 season, Grand Ledge lacrosse players were part of a cooperative program in conjunction with Lansing Catholic Central and Waverly schools. Teams for both boys and girls existed for 4-6, 7-8, and high school; JV and Varsity. As a result of an exploding number of Grand Ledge athletes on the cooperative teams, it became apparent that it was time to pursue a Grand Ledge program of its own.

In the Spring of 2012 a group of committed Grand Ledge parents began investigating the possibility of Lacrosse becoming a Varsity sport at Grand Ledge High School and forming a club for younger athletes; 4-8 grades. After many hours of planning, discussions with parents and players, as well as the assistance of several coaches from around the state of Michigan, this group of parents decided it was time to form the Grand Ledge Lacrosse Club.

A major step forward in the development of the club was the hiring of a professional lacrosse player as the Director of Coaching; overseeing teams and coaches and establishing consistency in coaching. In June of 2012, Cam Holding, a professional Lacrosse player with the Colorado Mammoth, was named the new Director of Coaching of the Grand Ledge Lacrosse Club. Cam will also be the head coach for the 4-6 and 7-8 boy’s teams.

The goal of the Grand Ledge Lacrosse club is to be able to fund a complete program for both boys and girls with elementary, middle school, and high school teams. Although the club is a non-funded school sport, high school athletes will be able to earn Varsity letters for participation.

With the help of the Grand Ledge Athletic Department, and Athletic Director Steve Baker, the club will field a Varsity Team for the 2013 season. Through the assistance and cooperation of the Grand Ledge Area Youth Football (GLAYF) and its board, all home games will be played at Marsh Field home of GLAYF. The 2013 Lacrosse season begins practice in March and begins league play the second week of April.
