Greene’s Paige Wilcox was named Class C first team all-state for girls soccer by the New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization, which released its annual honors on Monday.
Among the others honored in various classes was Victoria Antonakos of Vestal on Class A third team; Vestal’s Emily Caslin on Class A fourth team, and Owego’s Megan Smetana on Class A fifth team. Waverly’s Emily Myers was named third team all-state in Class B.
Wilcox was one of three Section 4 players named first team in Class C with Lansing’s Shea McCartney and Elena Perkins. Lansing had several other honorees including Maura McCartney on the second team and Madeline Boerman on fifth team. Elmira Notre Dame’s Sheridan Heine was named second team and Unatego’s Tanner Reed and Torri Halaquist were named third team, while Spencer-Van Etten’s Lisa Nelson and Notre Dame’s Emma Booth were named to the fourth team.
Oneonta, the Class B state champion, swept the major awards in its class. Taryn More and Mariah Ruff shared player of the year, and Jerry Mackey was named coach of the year. More and Ruff were also named to the Class B first team with Madison Miller on the second team, Taylor Hitchcock on the third team and Meg Burns on the fifth team. Dryden’s Taylor Bennett was named to the Class B first team.
Maine-Endwell 57, Elmira 28: At Elmira, Daniella Dean scored 18 points to lift M-E, which led 33-18 at halftime, in a STAC matchup. Martine Bosch added nine points for the Spartans.
Spencer-Van Etten 29, Newfield 27: S-VE outscored Newfield 9-5 in the final quarter to come with the two point victory in the IAC matchup. Morgan Brock scored eight points for S-VE.
Vestal 61, Binghamton 38: Alex Evans scored 14 points and Annie Ulrich added 11 for Vestal. Hannah Spencer scored 12 for Binghamton.
