For the sixth straight year Grand Ledge carried home the MHSAA regional gymnastics team trophy after the top-ranked Comets won the Region 1 title with a score of 149.325.
“I’ve been telling the kids all season long that we have the ability as a team to score 150 points,” coach Duane Haring said. “Today we came really close. We had a couple of hiccups or we’d have hit it.”
The win is the 91st consecutive team win for Grand Ledge. The Comets have won five consecutive state titles.
Comets senior co-captain Sara Peltier finished second in the all-around in Division 1 with a score of 37.575. Peltier chalked up a second place vault at 9.65, a third place in bars with a 9.750, a fifth place in beam with an 8.800 score and a second-place floor exercise with a 9.40.
Rockford freshman sensation Madi Myers won Division 1 top honors in the all-around with a score of 38.925.
Grand Ledge freshman standout Rachel Hogan also had a big day with a fourth-place finish in the all-around in Division 1 with a score of 36.375. Hogan also was fourth in vault (9.400), bars (8.900) and beam (9.175) and a sixth in floor (9.175).
Senior co-captain Lauren Clark won top honors in the Division 2 all-around with a score of 37.800. Her scores included a first on vault with a 9.60, second on bars at 9.150, second on beam with a 9.550 and a first on floor with a 9.500. Junior teammate Presley Allison finished second in the all-around at 37.575. Allison scored a second on vault at 9.200, first on bars at 9.450, first on beam at 9.675 and third on floor with a 9.250.
