H.S. baseball: Iron Dukes grab bounce-back win

By

The Iron Dukes combined a balanced offensive output with a steady pitching duo Friday to return to the win column.

Jake Cherubini struck out six batters in six innings Friday, helping the Marlboro High School baseball team beat the visitors from John A. Coleman Catholic 5-0.

Marlboro improved to 8-9 after reliever Terrence Jones fanned the side in the seventh to preserve the shutout.

The hometown hurlers’ teammates complemented the pitchers’ efforts with their work at the plate, giving them more than enough runs with which to work.

Kyle Cherubini finished with two hits and scored two runs. Matt Tamburri added two hits, driving in a run. Scott Oliver doubled and drove in a run.

Ryan Haight drove in another Marlboro run.

Coleman’s record fell to 6-6.

The visitors received two hits from Doug Terrone.

Marlboro rebounded from a loss at home earlier in the week. The visiting Red Hook Raiders beat the Dukes 5-2 in Marlboro on Tuesday.
