Michael Knowles won the final six games of his match Monday and led high boys tennis team from Beacon High School to a 4-1 victory over visiting North Salem.
“He was down 5-1 in the second set and kept himself together. Once he started to gain the momentum, his opponent started to make more errors and Michael won the last six games,” Beacon coach Dave Ryley said following Knowles’ 6-1, 7-5 win.
Brett Gallio picked up a win at second singles, and Erik Gaster and Vrajesh Patel were winners in straight sets at first doubles for the Bulldogs (6-4).
Roy C. Ketcham 7, Brewster 0 – Sean Napora, Jim Koob and Ravi Pandya all won in straight sets at singles for host Ketcham, which hosts Our Lady of Lourdes on Wednesday.
Hendrick Hudson 4, John Jay 3 – Wiccopee’s Patriots (5-1) lost their first match of the year, despite singles victories from Shiva Laksmanan and Weston Miller.
The Sailors improved to 9-1 on the season.
Ellenville 3, Pine Plains 2 – Travis Humeston and Rachel Simmons earned their first triumph of the season at first doubles to lead host Pine Plains in the Mid-Hudson Athletic League match.
The Bombers host Millbrook today.
Jenny Caoili collected four goals and two assists as Arlington defeated host Carmel, 11-7.
Katie Curran scored three goals, and Taylor Nyberg tallied two goals and two assists for the Admirals (3-2). Maryn Lowell stopped 11 shots in goal.
Arlington plays Wappingers today at Ketcham.
Red Hook 20, Saugerties 7 – Marist Parr and Caitlin Swanson scored six and five goals, respectively, to propel the Raiders (6-0) to victory.
“We really played really well. I was really pleased with how we came out,” said coach Yvonne Turchetti, whose Raiders led at halftime, 10-4. “The kids really rose to the occasion.”
Lindsay Hobson scored three goals for the victors, who travel to Goshen on Wednesday to oppose John S. Burke Catholic.
New Paltz 11, Highland 7 – Kiley Murphy finished with six goals and two assists, and Katie Capulli added three goals and four assists for New Paltz in the match with rival Highland played at Marlboro.
Millbrook 15, James I. O’Neill 5 – Julia Galantich finished with five goals and two assists for host Millbrook, which won a third consecutive match to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Monica Koralus contributed five goals and one assist for the Raiders, who Amanda Critelli and Liz Halpin each had two goals for the Blazers.
Girls track and field
Freshman Kristin Butts won the 100-meter dash (13.1 seconds), the 200 dash (27.2) and the long jump (14 feet, 4 inches), helping her Dover Dragons beat visiting Rhinebeck, 67-64, in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League dual meet.
Among other Dover winners, Brittany Butts prevailed in the shot put (30-2½) and the discus (76-3).
Eliza Clark (400 hurdles, 1:18), Catherine Clarke (1,500 run, 6:41.4), Brianna Santo (400 dash, 1:06), Barr Lavi-Romer (100 hurdles, 19.2) and Alexa Schwartz (800 run, 2:45.2) won singles events for the Hawks.
Boys track and field
In Dover’s 86-54 win in a MHAL dual meet over visiting Rhinebeck, the Dragons got multiple victories from Jean-Paul Fiallo (100 dash, 200 dash), Anders Hade (110 hurdles, 400 hurdles) and Shakim Futrell (discus, shot put).
Rhinebeck’s Dante Penepent (1,600 run), Alex Slayton (400 dash), Zachary Karas (3,200 run) and Chris Cassano (long jump) each won singles events.
