H.S. roundup: Mount Abraham slips past Rice



Aiden White-Pifer and Cale Thygesen scored in each half as host Mount Abraham topped Rice 2-0 in a Lake Division high school boys soccer showdown Monday.

White-Pifer scored in the 25th minute while Thygesen put away the insurance tally in the 53rd minute for 8-0 Mount Abraham.

Ira Fisher worked a three-save shutout for the Eagles. Leland Gazo and Conner Gorman combined to stop five shots for Rice (5-4).

* Milton 2, Missisquoi 0: Phillip Hepburn and Eric Jarvis scored five minutes apart midway through the second half as Milton won at Missisquoi.

Nate Dooley made seven saves for Milton (2-7-1).

Eamon Murphy had five saves for MVU (2-6), which rented lights to play its first night game in Swanton. The MVU girls play a night game tonight, also against Milton.

* Stowe 3, Montpelier 2: Matt Schwab’s 20-yard rocket with six minutes to go lifted host Stowe past Montpelier in a back-and-forth affair.

Robert Buonanno and Tyler Mullin gave Stowe leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before Schwab’s winner, which was set up by Cottie Gorham.

Freshman Mark Infante stopped six shots for the Raiders (6-2-1).

Paul Farrell and TJ Dellipriscoli had Montpelier’s goals. Connor Cossett turned away nine shots for the Solons (5-1-2).

* Northfield 3, Lamoille 2, 2OT: Jackson Tucker’s second goal in the second minute of the second overtime pushed Northfield past host Lamoille.

Drew Linder also tallied and Mike Kew was in net for the Marauders.

Zach LeBlanc and Caleb Tilton scored for Lamoille, the latter a 42nd-minute equalizer. Bennett Anderson was Lamoille’s goalie.

* Green Mountain Valley 2, Vergennes 0: Logan Stattery and Brendan Todd provided the goals as host Green Mountain Valley dispatched Vergennes.

Slattery hit off the right post and in for his first-half goal while Todd’s 20-yard free kick served as the sealing second-half strike for the Gumbies.

Philippe Ratte made six saves for GMVS and Dylan Raymond stopped eight shots for Vergennes.

Field hockey

* Harwood 6, Lyndon 0: Two of Katie Martin’s three first-half goals were in a 46-second span, part of Harwood’s big offensive effort in blanking host Lyndon.

Sarah Wry, Mia Burfoot and Mercedes Woolley tallied in the second half and Martha McKenna worked a three-save shutout for 5-2 Harwood.

Bryanna Trottier stopped seven shots for Lyndon (3-3-1), which has gone 0-3-1 since an unbeaten start.
