In a matchup of undefeated Division I heavyweights, St. Johnsbury used a strong second quarter to roll past Rice, 55-38, in a high school boys basketball game Monday night.
Vlad Cobzaru led the way for St. Johnsbury (9-0) with 17 points and nine rebounds and Jake Grinbergs had 14 points and eight rebounds. Tristen Ross chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds. SJA outscored Rice 12-3 in the second quarter.
Casey Tipson and Marcus Willingham each had 13 points for Rice (7-1), which tallied just eight total points in the middle quarters.
* Twinfield 65, Oxbow 53: David Codling scored 28 points to lead Twinfield to a win over visiting Oxbow.
Brandon Gibbs (14 points) and Miguel Gonzales (11 points) were also in double-digits for Twinfield (7-3).
Oxbow (1-8) was led by Adnrew Lyman, who had 14 points, and Caleb Lafaille, who added 12 points.
* Northfield 56, Stowe 52: Brad Medow scored 29 points and Northfield earned its first win of the season at Stowe’s expense.
