Thirty-four Dutchess County wrestlers qualified for next weekend’s Section 1 championships at a pair of divisional meets held Saturday, at John Jay High School and Mahopac High School.
Eight of those 34 won divisional championships. John Jay’s Jay Albis (113 pounds), Dale White (160) and Brett Perry (170) each placed first on their home mats in the Division III meet. Roy C. Ketcham’s Brad Marvin (145), Joe Fabrizio (195) and Steven Abril (285) each won their weight classes in the Division IV meet in Mahopac.
Arlington’s Brady Robin won the Division IV title at 99 pounds. Beacon’s Andrew Grella won the Division III title at 182 pounds. All wrestlers who placed in the top four at the divisional meets advanced to sectionals.
Arlington and John Jay led the way among Dutchess teams, with each advancing 11 wrestlers. Arlington will also send Alfredo Olmedo (99, second place), Dillon Sforza (120, third), Michael Chirasello (126, third), Jon Silveri (132, fourth), Mario Zeppetelli (145, third), Chris Borchert (145, fourth), Brandon Badger (152, third), Mike Peterson (160, second place), Rob Hanaburgh (182, second) and Tanner Nielsen (220, fourth).

“It was an outstanding job. We were hoping for eight to 10 qualifiers and we got 11,” John Jay coach Jamie Weaver said. “It was a great performance all around, with a lot of young kids in there who qualified for sectionals for the first time. I was very happy with the overall performance.”
Ketcham qualified nine wrestlers: Brandon Rose (126, fourth place), Danny Murphy (138, second), Logan Mongelli (160, fourth), Dom Emory (170, third), Austin Hassett (182, third) and Murphy Wilson (195, second).
“Monday and Friday, we’ll practice with our own team,” Ketcham coach Joe Warren said. “Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, all the Dutchess County qualifiers get together and will practice together — one day at Arlington, one day at Ketcham, like that. It’s a good camaraderie amongst the local teams.”
Also qualifying for sectionals from Beacon was Kevin Davis (99, third place) and Dennis Peckron (106, fourth).
