Hammell nets game winner for Raiders


Senior Brittany Hammell scored three goals including the game-winning goal with 1:22 left in regulation as the Toms River East girls lacrosse team defeated Jackson Memorial, 12-11, in a Class A South game on Tuesday afternoon.

The Jaguars (0-1, 0-1) were leading 6-4 at halftime, but the Raiders (1-0, 1-0) offense began to pick up momentum in the second half. Senior Nicolette Faragalli led the Raiders offense scoring three of her four goals in the second half to give her team an 11-8 lead with under four minutes remaining.

With time winding down on the clock, Stephanie Costa scored two goals, and Erin Kelly scored another goal within one minute to tie the game.

Hammell stroked a bullet shot past Jaguar goalie Christina Fruzynski with for the game-winner. Costa scored a game-high seven goals, and had one assist in the loss.

COLTS NECK 11, WALL 10: Colleen Knier scored her 100th career goal in the Crimson Knights (0-1, 0-1) Class A North loss to the Cougars (1-0, 1-0). Knier finished the game with four goals, and Sophie Lozowksi scored two goals in the loss.

Senior Kylie Allmers and sophomore Erika Keselman each scored four goals. Alex Lafata made 14 saves in the net for the Cougars.

MANALAPAN 16, HOWELL 13: Cassidy McBride scored four goals including two in overtime to lift the Braves (1-0, 1-0) over the Rebels (0-1, 0-1) in a Class A North game.

Danielle Rizzo scored five goals, and Sara Perkins added three goals in the win. Howell’s Amanda Mauro led her team with four goals, and two assists.


ST. JOHN VIANNEY 2, MARLBORO 0: The Lancers (1-0, 1-0) won the third game, 27-25, and pinned a loss on the Mustangs (0-1, 0-1) in Class A North.

St. John’s senior outside hitter Bryan Walsh finished with 6 kills and 12 digs. Junior outside hitter Justin Sandy added 11 kills, 10 digs and two aces. Sophomore opposite Andrew Zimms contributed eight kills, four blocks, seven assists and seven digs. St. John’s senior setter Christopher Lionette notched two kills, two blocks, 29 assists and eight digs.

Senior outside hitter Brandon D’Lima led the Mustangs with 13 kills. Senior setter Dylan O’Handley added 30 assists and 10 digs. Junior middle hitter-blocker Bobby Jastzebsk contributed nine kills.

TR SOUTH 2, CENTRAL 1: Taking the third game, 25-17, the Indians (2-0, 1-0) pinned a Class A South loss on the Golden Eagles (0-1, 0-1).

Senior setter Joe Esposito keyed the win with 22 assists and four blocks. Senior middle Alex Purpuro added eight kills. Senior outsides Trevor Signorino and Scott Stueber contributed four kills apiece.

Senior outside hitter Ambrose Powell paced the Golden Eagles with 14 kills and six digs. Senior outside hitter Casey Raso added eight digs. Senior middle blocker John Seaton added four blocks. Sophomore setter Bryan Jones contributed two kills and 16 assists.

TR NORTH 2, TR EAST 1: The Mariners (1-0, 1-0) scored a 25-19 win over the Raiders (0-1, 0-1) in the third game in Class A South.

North junior setter Jacog Iovino notched 14 assists and five aces. North opppsite Joe Gaboury had seven kills. Senior opposite Jesse Buchan contributed five digs and 13 assists.

North senior middle blocker William Koch finished with 10 kills and six blocks. Senior opposite James Dellane addeed five digs, 4 kills and three blocks.

East sophomore middle blocker Evan Turner notched 12 kills and two blocks. Senior setter-opposite Jake Nicol added 10 assists and four kills. Sophomore outside hitter Nat Amedeo contributed four blocks and three kills.

CBA 2, HOWELL 0: Senior setter Doug Dzema’s three blocks and 22 assists paced the Colts (1-0, 1-0) past the Rebels (0-1, 0-1) in Class A North.

Senior right side Dan Andree contributed five kills. Senior left side John Gatens added six kills and two aces. Junior setter Jason Gillies led Howell with 11 assists. Sophomore outside hitter Jacob Brown added five kills and two aces and junior outside hitter P.J. Bonello contributed five digs.
