Contrary to what the scoreboard in the upper left of this video says, Hudsonville (Mich.) trailed Forest Hills Northern by two points with 1.5 seconds remaining in regulation of Monday’s regional semifinal game. The Eagles never practiced their ensuing play, but it should look quite familiar to college basketball fans.
Hudsonville sophomore Brent Hibbitts threw a three-quarter-court pass to Cody Stuive, who bobbled the ball before regaining control in time to sink the game-tying shot at the buzzer. Hudsonville would go on to win in overtime, 64-60.
The play was reminiscent of the one Duke players Grant Hill and Christian Laettner pulled off in a 104-103 win over Kentucky in the 1992 NCAA Tournament.
“My Dad and I are huge Duke fans,” Hibbitts told Fox 17. “So last night when I got back home, my dad brought that up and I thought it was just like it.”
Thanks to The Big Lead for the heads up.
