Athletic achievement: He led the Owls (17-3) to the Division I state championship this past season. Saito posted a 7-0 record, a 0.41 ERA, threw three complete game shutouts and produced a WHIP of 0.88. The 2013 State Tournament Most Outstanding Player, he pitched 14 innings while allowing just two runs to win both of his postseason starts this season.
Academic excellence: Saito has maintained a 3.09 GPA.
Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally on behalf of the Special Olympics and as a motivational speaker at an elementary school in addition to participating in multiple community clean-up initiatives.
“Trey Saito was such a consistent presence all season long,” said George Gusman, head coach at Saint Louis (Honolulu, Hawaii). “He pitched twice in the state tournament, including the championship game, and he finished the season undefeated. That in itself was quite an accomplishment. He knows how to mix speeds and make himself a very good pitcher.”
THE FUTURE: Saito will play for California Lutheran.
